Special thanks to Mark Jones, who stepped in at the last minute to referee this game. Both teams agreed he done a very good job. Thanks again Mark. After partaking in a minutes silence for remembrance, in
horizontal rain, both teams wanted to get the game underway.
Padstow took control and on the stroke of 5 minutes Tom Mullard
put a powerful cross into the box which Kyle Tippet met with a glancing header
and netted passed the Delabole stand in keeper. Padstow continued to pressurise
and 30 minutes in Russel McOwen made a great run into the box, let of a great
shot which was parried away by the keeper only for the ball to fall at the feet
of Tippet for his second. Tom Mullard was very unlucky , fighting hard to gain the ball,he turned 180 degrees in the Delabole area and with defenders all around , managed to get a shot off, everyone held their breath as they watched the ball bounce along the bar. Bad luck mate. 5 minutes later Sean Blows scored after a run from
his own half and curling around the keeper. Straight from kick off Tippet
gained the ball, made a run into box and cut the ball back for Blows to get his
second. Padstow going in 4 – 0 at half time.
2 minutes into the second half Blows put in a long low cross
at speed which Tippet dispatched for his hat trick. Padstow seemed to be camped
in Delabole’s half and a couple of minutes later Dave Trestain let fly from the
edge of the area to get his first of the season. On the hour a corner was
played short to a waiting to a waiting Rob Rowe who powered the ball towards
Tom Hulls head for his first. McOwen scored a cracking goal after a run down the
left and slotting it passed the keeper, this was followed 10 minutes later by
Rowe slamming a shot from some 40 yards over the head of the keeper. 5 minutes
before the whistle Hullput Paul Richardson through to get his second of the season. Delabole got a consolation goal in the dying
minutes whenLee Heather put one passed
Rob Elliot in the Padstow goal.Praise must go to Delabole who never gave up,
never shouted at each other, and played the game with great spirit, even though
the game was going against them. Well done lads and well done Delabole.
31st October PUAFC 5 v St Breward 0
Underdogs Division 5 sidePadstow United bit back today, by beating
Division two side St Breward 5 - 0 in the Junior Cup. Padstow were on top right
from the start when after three minutes, Kyle Tippet put a cross into a waiting
Sean Blows, who side footed passed the keeper. Two minutes later, Tippet
steered passed the keeper himself, after an accurate cross from Jake Charles. Padstow
kept up the pressure, on 14 minutes a Padstow corner was cleared straight to
Blows, who returned it to the top left hand corner with a lovely volley. St
Brewardhad a few chances at this stage
and were trying to get back into the game, bur a poor clearance from their
lines found Blows on the edge of the area, and a half volley deflection sent
the keeper the wrong way., and gave him his hat trick. Just before half time
The Padstow keeper released a short ball, and nine passes later the ball was
in the back of the net, with blows getting his forth. The second half was a
different game with Padstow using all their subs and also putting their keeper, Rob Elliot, in midfield, and Blows in goal. Chances fell to both sides, but both teams failed to
score
24th October PUAFC 2 v Pelynt 2
Both teams most probably came away thinking they had lost 2 points. Padstow for the amount of chances not taken, and Pelynt for letting a 2-0 lead slip away with 10 mins to go. The wind played a major part in this game, gusting heavily at times, and both teams really didnt get to grips with it. Padstow missed several chances, including inches passed the post in the first 5 minutes, a chip over the keeper, 2 one on ones and several shots saved by the keeper.Pelynt played their part in the first half but didnt look like scoring until the 45th minute when they scored. The game followed the the same vein, and in the 60th minute Pelynt went 2 up.This seemed to kickstart Padstow into playing some decent football. The ball started to be moved around and it seemed just a matter of time before Padstow scored. With 5 minutes to go Padstow strung together 11 passes before Tippett curled one around the keeper. Padstow continued to apply pressure and with 2 minutes to go, Tippet netted another. Padstow kept pushing forward unitil the final whistle. Not a pretty game overall to watch, mainly because it took Padstow 60 minutes to start playing football ! BUT they did continue t fight to the end, when a lot of others would have settled for losing with 10mins to go. Well done lads.
10th October PUAFC 4 v Mevagissey Res 3
In an interview with Radio Cornwall, I said that I thought we were lucky to come away with 3 points. It was our own fault, at times in this game, some of our football came staight off the training ground, passes flowed with ease. Going 1 - 0 after six mins with a goal from Blows, it looked like this could be a landside but it wasn't to be. Mevagissey equalised after about 30 mins against the flow of play. In the second half we picked up the pace and in the first 20 minutes we put another 3 in.One from Kyle Tippet, another from Blows and and then Richardson . In the last 5 mins we conceded two easy goals that were totally down to lack of concentration and discipline! That said apart from the last 5 mins we performed quite well, and special mention to Paul Richardson for getting his first goal of the season, and for Mark Jones for running the line.
26th Sept PUAFC 0 Charlestown 2
Padstow failed to keep their unbeaten home record against Charlestown through a lack of finishing , discipline and 5 players out through injury or holiday. Padstow took control of the match right from the start, with attack after attack coming for the first 25 minutes, with Charlestown only having 2 attempts at goal. the confidence was growing, and a lack of discipline saw Padstow's defence moving higher and higher up the pitch, until getting caught by a quick attack and a well taken goal from Charletown's Andy Kerigan. For some reason Padstow's heads seem to drop and it was apparent at half time that they couldnt believe they were losing, after having so much of the game. Padstow came out for the second half and started to create chances, including a lovely chip over the keeper from Kyle Tippet, only to watch the ball go just wide of the post. Charlestown started to get back into the game and again Padstow conceded a goal from Ian Hepwell that the Padstow keeper appeared to save, and then everyone watched as the ball rolled over the line. The game became a bit messy as it went from one end to the other with neither team looking like they were going to score. This game was played in the true sporting spirit of the game and both teams knew that they had just played 90 minutes of football.
19th Sept Duke of Cornwall 0 v PUAFC 3 Strength in Depth
As manager of Padstow I am in a position that Padstow hasn't been in for many years, and that is strength in depth. It has its drawbacks though; when you've got 20 odd (very odd) players and you have to pick your team, but its a luxury I have at present. This week having a large squad was a plus. We travelled to Par knowing that 6 of our starting 11 would not be playing, due to injuries, holidays and house moving; but I still wouldn't have taken a draw if it was offered before kick off. Padstow had a shot on target in the first minute. Then three minutes in while the Dukes were still contesting a throw in, Russell McOwen put a quick throw through to Kyle Tippet who took on the defence, turned inside and skillfully bent it around the keeper. Padstow spent the remainder of the half defending long balls, and although the Dukes created some chances, they never looked like putting any of them away. With 2 minutes of the half remaining Padstow were awarded a penalty which Sean Blows slotted away with his usual accuracy. As the second half kicked off, McOwen forced a corner. The kick was placed perfectly for Jake Charles to rise up and head home for Padstow's third. The Dukes were unimaginative after this and played long balls from the keeper into Padstows box. It gave a chance for all the subs to get on and get some match fitness. The back four remained solid and dealt with the long ball very well, as did Rob Elliot between the sticks, who acted as sweeper on this small pitch.Every player gave 100% and performed well; great effort, great result! Well done lads.

PUAFC 6 v St Newlyn East 0
Padstow United had an easy six nil victory over St.Newlyn East Reserves who were
playing their first game.
Padstow started the game with a route one goal from Jake Charles in the opening
three minutes. The game flowed well and Padstows Sean Blows unselfishly pulled
a ball back into the path of Simon Press for Padstow to go two up before the
interval. Padstow came out well in the second half with Sean Blows running onto
a Jake Charles through ball, swerving the ball past the keeper with his left
foot. With St Newlyn East defence sitting well forward, it left room for Padstow
to explore the channels. Simon Press made a good run only to have the St Newlyn
keeper make a reflex save, Press then followed up the rebound to get his second.
With Newlyn tiring, both Jake Charles and Russell McOwen made runs from just
inside the St Newlyn East half to score one on ones with the keeper.
5th Sept
PUAFC 5 v North Hill 2
North Hill started the game
with Nathan Dore scoring from 25 yards with a blistering shot in thefirst 5 minutes . With the game going from
end to endKyle Tippet equalised for
Padstow after 20. This didnt stop Dave Sharpe netting one for North Hill after
35 mins, and Padstow replying just before half time through Simon Press.
With some adjustments made Padstow dominated the second half anda
brace from Sean Blows and another from Tippet secured Padstows first win of
the season. 29th Aug
St Cleer 4 v PUAFC 3
On a lovely pitch the game was flowing from end to end, with passing moves from both teams. We fell fowl to a quickly taken free kick in the 38th minute. Sean Blows took us level, and then we conceded again just before half time. St Cleer were now reverting to route one football, and playing a little dirty. In the second half we conceded a penalty , which was way outside the box, but the lads held their discipline, and we went 3-1 down, a scorline that no one likes to have. Jake broke through in style to net the second for Padstow, and we always looked like scoring. We then AGAIN fell fowl to a quick taken free kick. The ref was playing his part in keeping St Cleers fowling to a minimum, and giving us a penalty, which Sean Blows netted, leaving the score at 4-3, which was the final score.

St Dennis 0 v PUAFC 1 (Friendly)
Murty's back !
Ant Murt asked to start this game, which shows his confidence is building after breaking his leg 2 seasons ago. Resting 4 players for the St Cleer game on saturday, it was a perfect occasion for Murt to start. A slow start again from Padstow but 10 mins in Padstow started to control the game with Murt mastering the center of the park. His touch and pace were both still there, just as it has been in training, and he got a couple of good hard tackles in as well. In the 38th minute he picked the ball up about 15 yards into the St Dennis half slipped passed a defender and curled a ball around the keeper from just outside the box. Padstow had their fair share of chances with jake Charles working hard on the wing and putting exacting crosses into the box. St Dennis had some chances but were struggling to cope with a solid back 4. Tom Hull made a couple of good saves but was rarely tested. The game continued much the same in the second half with Tom Hull pushing a good shot onto the bar to keep Padstow ahead. An excellent performance against a team 2 leagues higher.

Boscastle 2 v PUAFC 2
My thoughts will remain in my head about this game, as anyone will share if they were there. The game was physically hard which we have never had any problems dealing with, after a slow start, at times we played some football that wouldnt have been out of place at any level! The first half was most probably evenly shared with niether team taking their chances, Boscatle took the lead just before halftime with a small mistake by the keeper (which he took some good hearted stick for after the game). Five mins into the second half Sam gerry came on up front, and with his first touch got a foot in between the last defender and keeper to push one home. Boscastles second was a pure stroke of genius (by our lino) the attacker recieved the ball in full on offside position. The ref looked to the lino who was "rubbing my eyes at the time" saw no flag and gave a goal. (another one that took a fair amount of stick, not as much as he will take if we vitally need 2 points at the end of the season) Sam Gerry got a second and Padstow looked favourite to get another, but it wasnt to be. A good overall performance by us, and our first point !

Bridgerule 3 v PUAFC 1
Things didnt quite gel in this game, we didnt cope with the very small pitch at all. The center of the park was so overcrowded, and lack of space didnt allow us the width that we like to play with. We went one up through a Sean Blows penalty then conceded just on half time. In the second half we switched to 3-5-2 and played the keeper as a sweeper, which worked well. The game could have gone either way with us now coping with the big lob, but fell foul to a set piece free kick on the edge of the area. we pushed forward more and more always looking like scoring, with 10 minutes to go Bridgrule made a quick big clearance which left us below strength at the back and they got a third. Looking forward to playing them at home on a full size pitch.

St Minver 0 v PUAFC 0 (Friendly)
Padstow defended well in the 1st half coming under alot of pressure from the Duchy 3 side. They coped quite well although not always pretty football. St Minver attacked well through the middle of the park through playmaker Ted Mager. Chances were missed from both sides, but both sides looked like they could score at any time, with most of Padstows chances coming from the left hand side of the park with Jason Farrant (brilliant debut!!!!) and Russel McOwen linking up well. In the second half Padstow playing downhill played much better football with Jason Olivey doing a great job of keeping Mr Mager quiet. Several excellent chances were missed with only a great save by the St Minver keeper from a blinding shot by Jake Charles, which he pushed onto the crossbar. This was Padstows first game and a good result from their point of view, and a few things to work on, on the training gound. Many thanks to Tom Hull for gong between the sticks at short notice, and played more than his part to keep the score at 0-0.Well done lads, you all worked hard, see you all Sat. Gaffer
Foxhole 5 v PUAFC 2 (Friendly)
Padstow travelled to Foxhole with a slightly understrength team, this didnt show in the standard of football played. The ball was played to feet for most of the first half, and some lovely movement of the ball down the wings. Both teams had their share of chances , with Foxhole going 1-0 up from a set piece after 35 mins. Play continued from end to end with Foxhole only looking dangerous with long through balls. On the stroke of half time Kyle Tippet made a wide run and hit a low hard ball into the box, Sean blows running towards the ball flicked the ball with a back heel passed the keeper and into the net. After sorting out the" through ball problem" we seemed to have control until we conceded a penalty which was well converted. Ollie Danning played very well in his new role as a right back being strong and confident, and Dave Trestain and Rob Rowe showed discipline and worked hard to stop them coming through the center. Rob Rowe scored a cracking goal albeit in the wrong end, and then the bobble of the ball beat Rob Elliot. On the hour Jake Charles made a run and hit a scorcher from 20 yards beating the keeper to leave a final score of 5-2. The scoreline is what goes down on the sheet, but the score didnt really relate to the content of the game.Well played lads ,keep up the hard work and bring on the season!
